Response to Bible Study Topic 8 (People Healed, and Discipleship)

This is a pretty brief chapter. Mainly it shows the people who are healed such as the Leper and the woman possessed of devils. The main thing to take account of is that Jesus heals these people because of their faith. They ask him and believe that he will heal them so it is done.

In the demands of disciples ship Jesus shows an interesting thing at the end of the section. The man wishes to follow Jesus but he asks that he first go bury his father. But Jesus says to him, "Follow me; and let the dead bury the dead" I found this interesting, i think that it means that he (the man that wishes to follow Jesus) is among the living (saved) and if he wishes to follow Jesus then he must follow and not wait. The "let the dead bury the dead" part I think means to let the dead (the men who are not saved or are lost) bury the dead. Interesting passage there.

Then comes the story of Jesus being on the boat and the disciples awake him because there is a strong storm. The words of Jesus i have always loved when he says "Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?" This is a great passage because it questions why we fear if we have Jesus with us. He asks them why they are afraid then says "oh ye of little faith". He wants us to trust him, to believe in him, and know that we are safe.

The end of the chapter where the devils are cast out into the swine is sorta funny in my opinion. But seriously this shows the power of Jesus and what he does to evil, he kills it. The part I found sorta humerious is that Jesus done as the devils asked and he put them into the herd of pigs, then he ran them all into the water and killed them. I got a sick sense of humor but that hit my funny bone.
