Hi.
I'm from the UK, but have read your site to attain more information on the condition, and wondered if i could ask a question.
I had surgery to repair a right-sided inguinal hernia 3 weeks ago. I'm still having some post-op aches and pains but nothing too severe. However, in the past couple of days I've experienced some pain (again, not severe) on the LEFT side of the abdomen, at much the same height as the initial pain of the now-repaired hernia. Is it possible to have acquired another hernia on the left side, or is this just a symptom of the operation ?
Pain from the surgery on the opposite side is not common with open repairs. The incidence of contralateral inguinal hernias (or bilateral) is between 11-15%. So this may be a hernia (newly symptomatic in your case) on the other side. If the pain persists, an exam is needed.
How about pain on the opposite side after a lap repair. I have pain on right side (Open repair 14 years ago) after having lap surgery on the left side 5 months ago.
I had right inguinal hernia repaired 4 months ago with prolene hernia system and have had pain on the opposite side too. It seems the pain started about two days after the surgery. I have went to two surgeons for a check and they tell me that it is not a hernia. the pain is from scar tissue pushing on the mesh I am told. When I cough there is movement and a pop but it goes back in. Please let me know what you find out because I would not be surprised if i got another hernia. Thank-you Brad
