Looking for recommendations for a surgeon in the NY, NJ, PA area (I'm in NJ). I have an appointment with Dr. Goodyear, but his office does not take my insurance plan. Apparently they used to participate, but do not any longer. We asked his office if they would consider providing the company with updated information and participating again, but the Dr.'s office said no. I haven't ruled out going to Dr. Goodyear out of network, but would like to look at other in network options.
So, I am looking for recommendations for a good surgeon for a possible inguinal hernia. I called Dr. William Meyers' office, but for an inguinal they referred me to his colleague Dr. George Amrom. Anyone know anything about him?
Based on my research mesh seems the most logical and best choice. So, I am perfectly comfortable with mesh being used. I prefer the PHS rather than a "plug," but of course will leave the final decision to the physician.
I am headed to Columbia for a consultation. It is nice for people in the PA, NY, NJ area to have a doctor's office that is willing to work with patients and their insurance coverage. I will let the Board know how things go.
I am trying to get info on the new device the Rebound HRD. To me if this works this could be great for regular and recurrent hernias. Why are you headed for Columbia and who are you seeing?
Did you see Dr. Meyer's collegue? Maybe you could ask about Rebound HRD. I know the Hernia MD on this board will Pooh Pooh it but Rebound Hrd may be an advancement that prevents mesh contraction and migration because of the nitonol ring. It is a memory ring but different than was on the original Kugel Patch. I am not sure what the latest Kugel patch uses but the Kugel patch appears to be gaining ground again.
Words of advice, if the doctor recommends going going with a mesh plug, find another doctor. Lightweight meshes are good, and its a 95% chance that a mesh plug will not give you any problems. But it really sucks being in that 5% that do have problems from the plug.
Mesh Plugs made by Ethicon same company that makes UltraPro, etc

Bard made one of the mesh plugs, but there are a couple more manufacturers.
One is Ethicon (or Johnson and Johnson).
