I thought I read that Gortex was not a good material for mesh. Yet I just saw that this is what Dr. Grischkan, who appears to be very highly regarded here, uses in his surgeries. Really? Gortex?
It's my understanding that Dr. Grischkan does still use Goretex mesh, and he makes a case for doing so. I know someone who interviewed him recently, and he addressed this question confidently, saying that he feels HIS use/installation of Goretex has not had the problems often cited in the research. For more on his views you should contact him directly by email. He probably will reply, and fairly quickly.
Thank you Jeff. I'm afraid my son has made his decision and it pretty much goes against everything all of you great folks here have been advising. I'm pretty upset about it but am doing my best to support him. The surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday, July 1. I'm just praying it goes well for him and I'm not back here in a few weeks asking what he should do next! He's the light of my life and I want the best for him. I just don't feel as though this is it.
Thanks to you and everyone else here for all of your guidance and advice. I appreciate it more than you know. My best wishes to you all. If it is okay I will check here periodically to see how you fellows are doing.
Thanks again. I will pray you find the help you need for your life to get back on track...minus the pain!
I did my homework, visited many surgeons, etc. before I got my repair. I was a little pressured by work and pain but went to the Hernia Center in Florida. At no time, did any surgeon say he used Gortex for hernia repair.
Dr. David Grishkan at the hernia Center of Ohio uses it. I can't say good or bad.
The two main meshes mentioned were Parietex and UltraPro. That's all.
