Pain and numbness in quad/vastus lateralis after surgery.

24 hours ago I had a direct inguinal hernia repaired via laproscope. The surgery went well and my abdominal discomfort has been wnl, but my right quad/vastus lateralis is numb when I touch it. The skin over my thigh feels like it has been sun burn but has no obvious burn marks or redness. When I bend my knee to try and move my leg I get a knife stabbing pain that feels like a charlie horse. I have kept it elevated and have been icing it periodically but it does not feel any different today. Is this normal? If so how long will it last? Is it nerve related?
