Hello: If I could get various opinions or experience: I had an inguinal hernia repair using Lichtenstein method. I am walking now up to 14 blocks (not all at one time) a day, otherwise csreful about lifting etc: now then, I have discomfort when moving or walking in both groins and some I can relate to the incision on the one side: Is this normal after three weeks and is it because using muscles and essentially new remodeling of area? Swelling has gone down about 40 percent since operation.
You probably did not have Parietex mesh put in. Did you look at the list of surgeons mentioned on this board by other posters? They do re-do's.
Dr. Bruce Ramshaw
Dr. Shirin Towfigh
Dr. Peter S. Billing
Dr. William Meyers
Dr. Kevin Petersen
etc. etc
I am in the same boat as you are. I am not that far away from where Dr. Amid is who practices under the Lictenstein Institute. I phoned him and he said yes I could come in for a consult. But he seems closed minded. I could drive to Cedar Sinai where Dr. Towfigh is.
If I went elsewhere, I could bring a friend if I have a redo surgery. I think in mesh removal, they will replace mesh with a different type (as per Dr.Ramshaw's flyer) or not put a mesh in at all or do anything after it is removed, or try a stitch technique.
Dr. Kevin Myers does all of his repairs with a Mcvey repair and there is no mesh.
you have the name wrong. It is Dr. Kevin Peterson in Las Vagas and Dr. William Mayers In Philadelphia. I used Dr. Meyers personally I found him to be very caring and a complete expert at what he does. Modified shouldice (NON-Mesh). He will only use mesh if 1.) the patient request it...and then lets you pick the type of mesh YOU want used or 2.) if the defect is to big that he feels his non mesh technique won't hold. He will thouroghly tell you the pros and cons of all the types of repairs also.
The best person to talk to would be your surgeon, since they are the most familiar with your case. It does sound like your recovery is going slower than what is considered to be normal, but it is not uncommon. Not everyone's body is the same. As long as you are seeing continuing improvements there shouldn't be much concern.
I had a femoral hernia repaired using the modified shouldice technique in late August. It has been 9 weeks and I also have pain on both sides (like you reported). Could you tell me how your healing has gone and how long it took to heal? Was the pain on the other side from the surger or from something else?
