Within 3 hours after my mother's surgery she was in severe pain, with a large abdominal bulge and vomiting. She was bound with a tensor bandage to move the fluid through her body to be disbursed. She lay bound for approximately 48 hours. At this time she was brought in for emergency surgery where it was discovered that her bowel had been cut in the inital surgery and the fluid build up was fecal matter. She died 10 days after emergency surgery.

Does anyone know about this binding procedure?

If you have your mom's surgery report, look at the surgery report. and see if she had entrapment of the bowels, /intestine or the omentum( this is the fatty part that hangs down in front of the intestine area protecting the same, kind of like a pillow. they first have to do a catheterization. During the surgery the surgeon fills the abdominal cavity with gas or air, they cut to the area where the entrapment is, this is where the bowels have poked through the hernia hole, while trying to push the bowels back through the hole, surgeon had to seperate the entraped part of bowels for the reason of entrapment they lost blood flow and part of them died. Just like the fatty omentum, it get entraped and blood flow gets cut off. in some cases gangrene sets in,which can poisons the blood stream. You said your mom was bound in tensor bandage, /or ace bandage/ binder. This is where I raise questions, First your mom, had to be with an catheter,her urine should of showed blood or something in it that the bowels had been cut. Second how often did either the doctor or nurses remove the binder and check her for swelling prior to the 48 hours??? Her abdominal area should of showed signs that something was wrong within the first couple of hours after surgery. Swelling area going black&blue. She passed away from the bowels being cut and bloodstream poison from the fecal matter. This was all explained to me with my now second recurrence of Ventral hernia. Same as Incisional hernia. but also at time of my first hernia in 2003, I got scared for earlier that year M.Gibbs from the musical group Gibbs brothers had passed away from twisted bowels, in a Miami Florida hospital. which led to other medical problems.... I had lived in the Tampa area when that happen. Which also Florida was going through a lot of Medicaid/ Medicare Fraud .....

PS. with the tension method of Ventral Surgery, I did not have any kind of drainage like they do with the mesh repair.like a stent. any old blood was pulled from abdominal on a out patient check-up, by a method like an amniocentesis, the surgeon done this three different time. I don't know the term for it. but it's the same as the amiocentesis., which I also been throught with child births. I hope this was of some help to you. They put on an abdominal binder. The binder was put on after a phone consult with the doctor. The binder was removed once briefly as the nurses checked her status. The surgeon supposedly came in to see her once on the Thursday, once on the Friday and then they called him in for the Saturday morning for emergency surgery. The nursing note do show that they were quite concerned about her health and must have called him numerous times as the notes state "doctor is aware". But still he did nothing.


During her first 48 hours she was in sever pain everytime I saw her and the abdominal bulge was growing in size and she was also vomiting.

Lor, this is Lin, i am in Alabama. Earlier this year a friend went in under an Inguinal male hernia. He had the samething happen to him. After he was moved from the recovery room to his private room and he came around, he also swelled in his private area, real bad, it was black&blue , his wife was their all the way. His doctor left shortly after his surgery he went shopping the rest of afternoon. the swelling started within the first half hour. and the problem got worst, the nurse went in appling ice packs did no good, they called the surgeon , he didn't come back , they had to keep paging him. they called in a surgeon from the emergency room that was on stand by. He put emergency call to the surgeon telling him he was put on report, he finial showed up took one look for the friend was going into internal bleeding for he cut/ nick into a blood vessel.So friend was wheeled back into emergency surgery again. all mesh was removed and stared all over again. The friend is doing good at this time. If it wasn't for his wife saying something wasn't right he also might not be here today.
