Carolinas Hernia Center is near by and the docs seem to be some of the best around. Has anyone had experience/surgery with these folks? I have an inguinal hernia and from what I can tell they would use laproscopic technique for the sugery. Still undecided about open versus lap seems like the results are very similar with a good surgeon.

You will find, I think, that on the three hernia discussion boards there are some who have had positive experiences there and at least one, recently, who has not. On a site administered by a hernia surgeon, known on the site as HerniaMD, he has said that if he needed hernia surgery he would go to Dr. Heniford at Carolinas, as he thinks Heniford is an excellent surgeon...
