As my hernia starts bothering me more each day I am again thinking of the logistics of driving myself to/from NPHI. Doing this alone. My plan right now is to drive up over a weekend (total 600 miles), surgery on Mon or Tues, stay at Homewood Suites, drive back Thurs - Friday.

Dr. Goodyear or someone with NPHI experience, does this sound reasonable? I don't want to get stranded in a motel room in pain.

My situation is a typical, although getting bigger, right inguinal hernia. I'm healthy, lean, and still very active. All my paperwork and insurance info has been submitted to NPHI so now I just have to get brave and schedule. How to get brave??

Although all hernias and all patients differ, this sounds like a reasonable plan. If you are traveling alone however, please leave some room for minor variation which may even include a 1-2 day earlier departure, (or 1-2 day later too). With a driver traveling along, departure the day after surgery, safely and comfortably, is common.

If a Monday surgery day is desired, plan for a Monday AM consultation/exam in my office, and surgery about 1:30 PM at the Surgery Center (separate location; 1 mile apart and both about 2.5-3 miles from Homewood Suits)
