I had inguinal repair on the right side in 11/08 due to work injury. I've been home and haven't been over doing it. I just had surgery again on 09/02/09 for femoral hernia and they found another inguinal, both on the left. What is my chance of recurrene?? I mean, 3 hernias in 10 mos seems kind of rare to me.
Hi Missy,
Can you let us know whether or not your surgeries were open or laparoscopic? Also, was mesh used in any of the surgeries? My guess is that you are so hernia-prone due to a connective tissue disorder aka herniosis.
Hi Jerry,
Both surgeries were done open. I've had so many surgeries that because of adhesions, lapro don't work on me. I'm pretty sure they used the mesh.
Hi Jerry,
I just went and did some research on the computer about connective tissue disorders. I found some interesting facts. I think I know why I'm getting so many hernias now. Patients that have had gallbladder surgery (in 2004 & open), and have had diverticulitis disease (in 2006 & open), they removed my sigmoid colon. Patients with both diverticulosis and gallbladder disease were more likely to have hiatus hernia or any hernia. I see my doc again on the 24th and plan on discussing this with her. Thank you so much!!!
