Hello, my name is Rebecca. I just figured out that the lump in my abdomin is a hernia. My doctor says that it doesn't need to be repaired, but i am not entirely convinced he is right. I respect my doctor very much, but i just feel like there is a little more to it then that. I first started feeling pain in my abdomin during this past winter while i was chopping and shoveling ice. I went to my doctor a few weeks ago because the pain seems to get worse at times, and has slowly been getting more long lasting each time. I have pain every day, but usually only when i move around certin ways, or when i eat certin things. Heavier foods and coffee tend to make the pain worse. For the past two days i have had a lot of abdominal pressure, and a lot more pain in the hernia itself. My question is, should i go and get this looked at again, does it need to be repaired, and will it keep getting worse if it's not repaired?
If you elect to get this hernia repaired make sure you do research and find a surgeon who will do the repair without the use of mesh, you will thank me later. Mesh has been creating many complications around the country and world./ Google mesh complications to start your research, you will be astounded by what you will find out and about what the surgeons and manufacturers won't tell you. Mesh is nothing more than a money making ploy by surgeons and the manufacturers alike. Please, before you have any mesh surgery, do your homework.
Even though I have been one of the victims of the issues with mesh, I will disagree, a good quality mesh product used by a good surgeon is a very useful tool in the treatment of hernia's. The choice of doctor's is the most important when getting a hernia repaired. Today you are more likely to hear about issues with mesh, than you are to hear about problems people have when they don't use mesh, because mesh has become the dominant way to repair a hernia. Many doctor's use mesh and never have problems, many don't use mesh and don't have problems. The quality of the surgeon and how proficient they are with the technique they use will determine the quality of the repair.
