I started experiencing pain 8 months after inguinal hernia repair and I am tired of dealing with my surgeon and the pain specialist he referred me to. Does anyone know of a good surgeon in the Chicago area who specializes in hernias and post surgical pain from a hernia surgery?
I went to Dr. Grishkan at the hernia center of Ohio. I know it is not the Chicago area but he was the only one who was able to take care of me after 4 failed surgeries.
Hope the best for you,
Norm,
How long was it since you had your surgery with Dr. G? And how what problems where you having? Also how long did it take you to feel better? If you want you can email me direct, I would like to talk to you about your experince with him.
Someone has posted the names of various surgeons throughout the country. If you view prior posts you will find their names. There really was not significant negative remarks on any of them, mostly positive. The only negative one was about Dr. Heniford. But that was only one remark.
Over the summer I asked a Dr. friend for the names of good hernis dr in chicago. he gave me these two names Nathaniel Sopor at Northwestern and Keith Millikan at Presbyterian St. Lukes I ended up going to a very good surgeon at luthern general in park ridge ( dr. Khorsand) for a recurrent abdominal hernia, but I don't think he particularlly specializes in hernias or pain from them.He did do my surgery and so far much better than the previous surgery.
Dr. Grishkan has some slides on his website showing how he does his repairs. Dr. Goodyear, what do you know about this (or anyone) and why does the mesh appear to be "sewed" in place? Does the mesh dissolve over time?
Why would my surgeon immediately send me to a pain specialist after thinking i have an issue with the nerves in the area of my hernia repair? Why not a neurologist? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
For whatever it is worth, I was referred to several different specialists due to post-op pain after hernia repair. One was a pain specialist, another was a neurologist. The neurologist really wasn't that helpful. She could prescribe drugs for me (Lyrica, neurontin, etc) but that was about it. The pain specialist was able to offer a variety of things, including drugs, physical therapy (not as applicable to nerve damage, but I didn't know it was nerve-related when I was first referred), and interventions such as nerve block injections and eventually nerve ablation. It seems that the neurologist is more focused on neurological disorders and diseases (MS, Guillain-Barré Syndrome, etc).
I cannot locate a notable surgeon in the Chicago area. I think you must travel.
Look at these Doctors
Dr. Goodyear
Dr. Ramshaw
Dr. Peter S. Billing (Edmonds, wa)
Dr. Shirin Towfigh Cedar Sinai , LA
Dr. Kevin Petersen, Las Vegas
Dr. David Meyers, Philadelphia
That's Dr. William Meyers not David. Also, Dr. Keith Millikan (mentioned above) is reportedly a great hernia surgeon in Chicago. He also has other areas of specialty but well known for herniorrhaphy surgery.
I have had a series of injections from a pain specialist with no results to show for it. Has anyone else had no results from injections, and if so, what was the next step in the process?
I was just talking to one lady I hadn't seen in a long time. She had an inguinal and femoral hernia repair about 3 years ago. She is in a lot of pain and injections did not help. I don't know if she had a lightweight mesh put in or not. Did the surgeon use too small of a mesh? I don't know.
