Dr. Goodyear: Prolene versus UltraPro

Dr. I would very much value your opinion on this:

Just talked with another surgeon (Hernia Inst. FL - you probably know him) about repair methods. He strongly prefers Prolene instead of UltraPro for inguinals. UltraPro, he feels, is harder to deploy due to lack of shape memory and just overall a little too flexible and slippery. He doesn't feel that it is a true improvement over Prolene.

I know that NPHI uses UltraPro (where appropriate) and my understanding was that it provides a lower profile, more comfortable repair. I'm very active and want the lease long term "sensation" that can be achieved. Trying to make a decision and this little bit of info makes me wonder about with method to seek.

Dr. Goodyear can you also please address how the "rough" edges of the cut material are tolerated by the body? From the attached picture it seems like movement would cause the sharp edges to "poke" the surrounding tissue and cause irritation and/or pain. Thank you!
