Guess we'll have to lock the acute psychiatric patients in a jail cell since CRMC didn't have the foresight to plan ahead.
"We won't have the capacity for psychiatric beds on July 15," Weidner said. "We are trying as best we can to come up with a plan to have psychiatric facility in Cullman County."
Weidner hopes to have the psychiatric beds at CRMC.
"The plan is we want the licensed psychiatric beds on this campus, but we do not have the authorization to have them," Weidner said.

It's not about planning ahead -- it's about licensure from the State to provide the service. CRMC would offer it if the State allowed it. Instead, there are alternatives nearby.

Since CRMC purchased Woodland Hospital and its assets, why would they not also have purchased the con for hospital beds and psychiatry beds that were assets of Woodland?

Alternatives nearby? Already CRMC yesterday sent two psych patients to Tuscaloosa and Talladega. That is CRMC's plan. They will also be going to Decatur West and Brookwood. It also means less ambulances and crews to cover 911 calls but it does not matter because the bean counters at CRMC are willing to take that risk. Also on another note, the E.D. at CRMC called EMS yesterday afternoon and ask that they not bring anymore patients because they were overflowing with patients. Good forward thinking their Jimbo and Jete.

Can you imagine what the staff at CRMC are going through trying to handle a situation they aren't prepared for? If Jimmy Boy had to work with the grunts for a while he'd stop going off half-cocked with his hare-brained schemes.

How about showing a little loyalty to your hospital or quit and let someone from Woodland have a chance at your job.
Don't forget, Capella was selling Woodland whether CRMC purchased it or not.
Since you work in the ER, you must be aware that CRMC had many psych admits that were held here while waiting on Case Management to find them a bed at an in-patient psych facility. Woodland Hills only took a small percentage of those patients. Decatur West took some before and they are positioning themselves to take more in the future.
There is a plan in place at CRMC if you will notice. Some fine employees from Woodland have already starting working with us, and others will come when they are allowed. It will take time for them to finish business at Woodland, then orientate to CRMC. Give this transition some time to work before you condem it to failure.

I think this person works for EMS. They are the only ones who would know where they are transporting patients. Either that, or someone from EMS is tlaking about patient transports, which is a HIPPA violation. Patients have to go where thier insurance pays for them to go, or else they pay huge out of pocket costs. Of course, this "ER worker" didn't bother to find out why they were taking a patient to any particular facility, they just wanted to get on this forum and slam CRMC.

Our psych facility at UAB is full. It is only going to get worse. It is very expensive to open one, make safe, even revamp. You can't just up and open a new facility, it takes lots of planning to keep everyone safe.
Our locked doors cost 40,000 each and get broken all the time. It takes more staff for acute patients, rounds on each one every 10 minutes 24/7, average 5-7 pts per Nurse and at least 3 specially trained care techs for about 20 acutely psychotic patients, give or take a few. We have a direct line to our own Police Dept for immediate help. The long term facilities are being closed down slowly. Trend is moving to community based care in Boarding homes and/or Special Apartments.
Nurses get hit, hurt, and I even had a patient to expire trying to escape. We have a security guard at the door 16 hrs a day to help prevent elopements. It is not a cush job by any means.

I agree 100% with the above poster. Psych nursing is NOT a cushy job. One nurse got hit so hard by a pt. she still has headaches from where she hit the floor. While I love psych nursing, it really is not for some nurses. So much more goes into that job than what you see.

Once again psych services at CRMC includes sending a patient to Tuskegee today. They keep getting further and further away. Soon they will be transported to surrounding states!

Patients have to go where their insurance will pay for them to go or pay a huge amount of money out of pocket. You must work for EMS or you wouldn't know where the psych patients are going. Why don't you try finding out exactly WHY a patient is being transported to a facility before going on public forum with information like this that only shows you don't have a clue what you are talking about.

Family members and friends talk about where patients are taken. And they could care less about HIPPA or laws about pt. privacy. It doesn't take EMS or a rocket scientist to find out anything about anybody. As far as critizing CRMC ...their shortcomings are public knowledge.

The Tuskeegee and Tuscaloosa facilities are VA facilities. We don't have VA facilities in Cullman. Period. VA patients have to go to VA facilities. DUH
