This is a sad trend of what happens when people stop caring.

He has had it pretty rough with that illness and no one seems be able to help him. He used to be a really sweet guy, but now he has turned into a jerk because he hurts all the time.

I do feel bad and really sad for him, but also for his family who does so much to try to help him. Are you him, by any chance?

Yeah, but...

....at least NOW he will have FREE medical care at the expense of the state. What is wrong with this situation? Does someone have to rob a bank or commit murder so they can get arrested and THEN get FREE medical care? Makes you think, doesn't it.

You need to check on "The 1917 Clinic" at UAB. I use to do some work for them about ten years ago and they had people coming from California because the treatments were so good. Good luck.

And it's not just me ho thinks so either. I spoke with a few others who say that they have gotten sloppy and unprofessional with their handling of patients.

If I had AIDS and ANYONE was willing to help me I would be thanking my lucky stars for their help.If you accept what someone tells you about 1917 Clinic without knowing first hand then all I can say is good luck. I know for a fact that there a lot of people that are still alive because of the people at 1917 and the fact they were the only ones in Birmingham that did care. I don't believe that the people who I once worked with have turned into non-caring sloppy medical professionals. If you can find someplace better then go for it.

look. bottom line. you said IF you had it...we don't know if this person has it or not or whether they are in the medical field themselves, but you identified that you were in the medical field. The general consenss nowadays is that many doctors are arrogant. Are they trying to be House or Dr. Dox maybe. Or god forbid, Dr. Dorian?

Even Hawkeye and Trapper John had their faults. lol.

Point being is that you don't know what it's like on the other side.

I'm only saying that if the person really has AIDS they need to be getting medication. Get it where you can and as soon as possible. Search for another doctor or clinic later on if you must.

Umm the last time I checked people go into health care to help others not to discriminate. Your post (maybe you are not meaning it to sound that way) sounds like this person should be just thankful that since he/she has AIDS that they are able to obtain health care at all and that they should go for it no matter what the quality of available care. I do not agree with this at all. I am NOT a Doctor but I did go into the medical profession for the sole purpose of helping others......people with AIDS are still people and they too should be able to obtain quality care. Like I said, you may not have been meaning for your post to sound so uncaring but that is the way it came across.

To the OP..were the MDs in this area who were so rude to you Primary Physicians?

well they have. And I am not saying it is all their fault. There are still people who have slipped thru the cracks. Take their dentist, for example. He sees 700 patients plus teaches at the dental school. Now of course that is probably not per month. They have been trying for a long time to get a second dentist in there. Well and I don't really want to say the other thing I was gonna say. But if you're not gay, then maybe seek elsewhere. I don't mind if people are gay. Not all the patients there are gay. But a straight person does not want to be hit on in the waiting room.

I used to take patients to 1917 and the employees there seemed very caring. I never saw the bs you are taking about in the waiting room. People are sick and not wanting what you are taking about. It's not a dating place it's a clinic.

I'm pretty sure the people in the waiting room are way too sick to think about anything other than getting their med's and trying to stabilize their condition.I would bet that more than half the people with AIDS, that I have known, are not gay anyway.I have known several women that were infected by their bi-sexual husbands who had a secret life it seems.

Most of these people are probably WAY too sick to be worrying about their love lives in a clinic. Second, I'm a straight woman and all so I do not know from experience, but I don't think that being gay means you run around indiscriminately hitting on people. Actually I've been told by several gay men that they have "gaydar" and usually only hit on gay men and/or women.
