Ok well as I have been on here several times seeking what info I can find from peolpe who have gone through thryoid cancer or surgery or whatever, I'm back to ask for some more information about treatment plans after being diagnosed with the cancer.I saw a new ENDO last week but today after talikng with one of the friends I know that went through this last year I am unsure about why my doctor seemed to have left me pretty uninformed to what I need to do from here and what I am looking at with this radiation treatment plan. The doc is new to b'ham only been here about 6 months or so and I don't know anyone who knows her , so at this point, do any of you know a really great ENDO who knows their stuff?, where, who do you use if you do where are they?I am wanting to see if this if fact is the best doctor for me and best game plan for my treatment that I need. This doc wants to do only about a 50 dose radiation pill and starve my throid before the treatment but left out the diet you need to be on to properly starve the thyroid she just didn't give me enough information to inform me on what we are needing to do or even set up my next opiontment and I am a little weary I just need to know I made the best choice to help myself overvome cancer and have confidence in that doctor I chose.Thank you for you input

about it. a family member went thru 2 treatments and docs continued to lower his synthroid meds until the TSH bottomed out, then it was time for the radiation treatment and drinking lots of liquids. He spoke of certain foods he was told not to eat during that time, but I don't remember what they were. My prayers are with you.

that should have been raised instead of lowered synthroid.

Thank you for the prayers I sure am in need of them now days more than ever.Well just like your loved one I am basicly doing the same thing. I think this is the routine for this kind of cancer. My problem is that this is a new doctor in this area, and I am not sure how long she has been a doctor but I feel that she hasn't informed me very well as to treatment plan. She set up the thyroid ablation treatment and that's it.She didn't tell me to eat anything different or stay away from certain things or to drink fluids.I found all this out by talking to a friend that had cancer last year.I am the type that likes to know what's going to happen and be prepared as much as possible, I don't like it when the asume you know or oops they forgot to inform you.I may get a second look to make sure .I would feel better if I felt more informed to what I needed to expect and what the next step is.I'll call tommorrow and we will see how things go from there, but I would still like a name of a great ENDO. Someone who done this for years and knows what they are doing from years of practice. Thanks

The dr. will go over what you need to know before you have the treatment. You will have to sign all those papers to agree to take the treatment before they touch you. It is done very often and they know what they are doing. Good luck

Thanks. This doctor hasn't explained alot of this to me as of yet, that said ,my biggest concer is that someone said you are supposed to be on special diet to remove iodine from your diet as much as possib;e to help starve your thyroid and she didn't tell me this either but already set up my treatment.I would feel better if things were brought up before hand not when I get there cancer was enough of a surprize for me.

Some times Doctors (though I doubt they mean to be so obtuse when it comes to the pts fears) can be bad about explaining or informing pts on their treatments and/or options. Make sure and read up lots on all options and then take that info. to the Doctor's with you....ask lots of questions. It's been my experience than an informed pt seems to keep health care workers on their toes. When it comes to something this serious getting a second opinion is never a bad thing (just make sure and do so in a timely manner as to not delay treatment). You are still in my prayers.

is an endocrinologist in Birmingham, and I have heard nothing but good (really good) things about him. My husband saw him, and he alerted us to an unrelated condition that posed a great threat to my husband's health, something that our local dr. had failed to do. I think that many people from Cullman see him.

He was practicing in a building near Carraway Hospital, but he has MOVED since Carraway closed. The address below that I was able to get off the Internet is wrong, but the phone number may still be accurate.

If I had a problem, I'd sure want to see him. We had to wait a long time for an appointment, but you may be able to see him sooner because of the nature of your problem. Be sure to tell whoever you talk with what your diagnosis is.

God bless you. Keep us informed.

Thank you for the recomendation.I acaualy am already one of his patients.I saw him right after they found the nodules and he was good.I like how they check your blood and all when you first come in and all but I had some real issues with how they handled my case,He didn't get his dictation from my appointment done for a whole month and both me and the surgeon had to call repeatedly for my records to be sent . Now he sent me to the surgeon and I went , no records and the time and money was wasted for that day the surgeon neede my files and had none.He was in the middle of his move, I guess when this happened but facing what did turn out to be cancer and all the stress of this it just made a bad impression for me.In his defense he was not the only office that did me this way, I would get sent to a doc and get there and no records were being sent from the one sending me, and yes I made sure I signed to have them released just nobody got that right most of the time.My advise to anyone out there is get your own copies and take them yourself which is just what I did and it helped saved me more grief and maybe even my life.I did like how his office did alot of things but my new doc seems to be working out fine mow.I actualy am set up for radiation therapy for Dec 1st.and on the thyroid diet getting ready for it right now.I did think about seeing doctor Teague again but didn't yet, we just didn't get off to a great start with the records thing and all but after this we will see, Thank you again for trying to help.
