as he gives token condolences to the victims

"The president made the comments as the commander of Fort Hood, the USs largest base for deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, quoted witnesses as saying the suspected gunman, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, shouted the Muslim declaration Allahu Akbar God is great as he opened fire. Speaking at the White House,

Mr Obama said: We dont know all the answers yet, and I would caution against jumping to conclusions until we have all the facts.

but hear me out. Given the nature of Islamic creed, particularly that part of the Koran that says that all people must either convert to Islam or be driven out of Islamic land or die, I think it is best that our government takes steps to minimize the number of immigrants with Islamic faith. We are supposed to have freedom of religion in the US but must we tolerate a creed that advocates that non-Muslim believers be driven out or killed?

To me that is what it boils down to, long term. The objective of Islamic extremists is to move into a non-Muslim society, start raising hell like they do in the Euro countries, and finally take over. Some of those people are taught to hate westerners from the time they can understand anything, and when they act up they can fall back on their religious beliefs as an excuse for what they have done. I am not buying that routine.

Even if we had to pay them to leave and never come back, I think it is in our best interests to rid ourselves of this menace. If we don't we will find ourselves fighting over here instead of over there.

about losing his voter support base that he fails to produce policy that is in the best interest of the country as a whole, and not just his voter base.

Perhaps we have some delicate negotiations going overseas that make it paramount that he not offend Islam in general. That goes to show just how manipulative and self serving a bunch of extremists can be. Take Afghanistan for example. Karzai needs to grow some balls and pick up the gaunlet against the Taliban and the Al Qaeda in his country or else step aside and let someone else do it. We can hardly expect to achieve much in Afghanistan as long as he pays lip service to our efforts and requests for cooperation.

Maybe it is time to pull hooks and move on. At least in Iraq we seemed to have spawned a pro-western movement that is tired of the life they had under a despot. Will we ever have an equivalent in Afghanistan? I doubt it. At the risk of spreading the conflict, our best bet may be to help Pakistan challenge the terrorists in its lands because they have at least shown the resolve to do something about it on their own.
