Response to amnesiac?

though i know you are so incredibly disappointed, along with the typical radio-listener and average record industry type, that radiohead will never again produce a song a la "creep." the fact is, they are a much better band than that one song, which it seems modern "alternative" radio will never let them forget. their second album was so much more complex, while retaining enough distorted guitars to keep everyone happy. 'ok computer' was just brilliant all-around. as for 'kid a', i'm willing to admit it's not their best album, although that bassline on "national anthem" is just so killer. however, it's point was not to be good but to be different. they said, "you know what, fans, we're just not like you and we aren't the same band. we can change just like you can. if you don't like what we are now, then bollocks to you." it's an artist's statement about who they are, not what they are supposed to be. "amnesiac", however, if you'd actually sit down and listen to it all the way through, is a beautiful work of art. yes, it's abstract, but that is part of what makes it work--it's bits of cohesiveness glued together by manicness and sheer will to form, not just a song, but a whole album.
further, it's not ego, dove, it's art. you simply can't ask michelangelo to sculpt the 'pieta' over and over, nor any other artist to constantly reproduce his or her own piece (except thomas kinkade of course). the band has moved on. they've embraced new forms of music (techno and jazz for instance) and have created something unlike ever before. that's why they are a brilliant band/artists and "amnesiac" is a work of genius.
