On an average night, we'd have somewhere between 25-30 'active' players show up at the guild. There were usually about 10-15 'wallflower' players (newbies, clueless new folks, assorted social freaks with limited bathing skills, ect ect) too, but they tended to get sucked into something before too long. I like it when clan elders leave players unattended....some of my best moments have come from putting new players into the spotlight when nobody was paying attention.
I'm of two minds about large games. On one hand, it means players can go off doing things without a storyteller watching 'em all the time. On the other hand, it's an administrative nightmare. Tracking influence expenditure and various plot line developments are a pain. Experience point progression was interesting too, but as long as it was fair there weren't too many problems. You learn to rely on your Narrators more, since you can't be there for everything that goes on.
As I said tho, there are a number of players with an interest in a Harrisburg larp. I checked with Rich (the owner of the Adventurers Guild) and he's still ok with a live action game in his area. It's centrally located yet isolated from the main road enough for discrete players. We used to run on saturday nights from 10pm to 4am and I think those hours are still open, but I'd have to check.
From what I hear, there's at least one other group thinking of opening up a live action game in town. Either they're going to try it at Hacc (after getting around the student counci) or they'll try to restart things at the guild. I think they're going to try to run a Sabbat larp game (which is for lazy storytellers and luser fan boyz in my opinion - but I digress) for what it's worth.
With all the shake ups going on here where I work and with an upcoming apartment move I don't have time to track the larp rumors down OR get into a game right now - but it's looking like I might be able to do a shift swap and start playing with you folks here within about two weeks. If nothing else, I might be able to just fire up the game again at the guild.
