Response to Is anyone with me on this? |
| Channon, I am glad you said something, and I agree (to an extent) I was tired of walking in a large circle after the first night! That was what prompted my suggestion that we move to Dickinson or some other area where we don't have a large body of water smack dab in the middle of the playing area.
Secondly, as far as things to do - the blame is twofold. Firstly on me - I haven't given you all as much of a storyline, but I promise it'll get better as I get more experience and a better feel for everything. Secondly, is on you. Not you specifically, necessarily, but the Storyteller and Narrators (if any) in a LARP only provide a certain amount of story - the players add into it with their own agendas, plans, etc. That said, try to sketch out at least a rough idea of your character's bio. Answer the following:
Why is my character here?
Does she enjoy Homid form, or is it a necessity for interacting with humans?
What is she afraid of?
What does she like?
What does she think of the other pack members?
What are her plans/agenda?
(each evening before play)How could I further my agendas/plans this evening?
Now, not all these may be applicable to you (or to anyone reading this - no Camarilla vampire is part of a pack), but they provide a good stepping stone to more specific questions you could ask yourself. The story is healthiest when we all work together to make something out of it - while I realize that we aren't experts on the World of Darkness, etc., just think in general terms of how you want to do things. Make suggestions, try new things, get involved with Influences, etc. The game will only stagnate if I don't get feedback from the rest of you. If I don't know what your character likes, wants, etc, they may be totally forgotten in the storyline because there is nothing in the storyline that interests them(because I didn't know).
From a logistics standpoint, I think we may be stretching ourselves a little too thin - we don't have many players. What I was thinking about was for everyone to make secondary characters - of the another type. Then we could play one night all Garou-related stuff, say, a trip into the Umbra to recover some fetish (which would really appeal to a stereotypical Black Fury) or something. Another night, we could play up some kind of Kindred problem (perhaps they are being plagued by Church-sponsored Hunters or something), and yet another night play the Garou-Kindred alliance thing up. If we had more players, especially some that could play Sabbat vampires & Black Spiral Dancers, that would be really great, but we have to work with what we've got. I can do a lot for this game, but I can't carry the whole game. It's just too much work for me to do.
In closing, if we all work together and share information (maybe even in-character, too), we can really make this a really great game. The prime advantage to LARP over Tabletop is that you really can make all sorts of alliances and such that other characters actually don't know about. There is so much that can be done with this that the limits are only what we make them out to be - so if everyone is willing to work together on this, then we can make a really great game. If not, then the game will inevitably suffer and die. So far, I have gotten great support from some of the players (you know who you are), and my Narrators, and I hope that everyone will want to contribute to the whole.
If anyone has any gripes, you need to let me know immediately. I can't fix a problem I know nothing about. We're working on another plot element that will force us to move locations, so please bear with us.
Sorry about the length, but I said everything I felt needed to be said.
