Easter got it's name from the goddess Ostara - I believe she was an English goddess of fertility - not sure, she could have been Gaelic or German - I can look into it if anybody really cares. But the upshot of it is, the Christians just subverted the previously pagan holiday and made it into a "holy" day. (just a note: I am not holding this against anyone. I'm willing to bet if the tables had been reversed, the same would have happened. Besides, we're still around, so they didn't get us all.)
