Response to Jim -- Hunter: The Reckoning

I can withdraw the confusion I had about "Virtues."

Conviction is not separated out into permanent and temporary traits, y'know that? Weird, huh? Zany stuff. Rather, your rating just rises and falls, rises and falls. And whenever it reaches 10, you can cash it in (your conviction returning to your creed's starting level) for a virtue.

I wanna have Edges bought with EXP not Virtues, but obviously I want virtues to be of some significance. Since they really don't do anything about such things, I was thinking that Virtues would work sort of like Generation or Rank. It determines your Max Attributes and your Maximum Permanent Willpower. The Max for someone with the unchangeable starting Virtues of three has a Max trait of 10 (you're Awakened, not partially so), and a Max Willpower of 6 (starting automatically at I dunno what. 2?).

I dislike the system of risking Conviction on an Edge. It'll be hard to convert, since by adding dice to the pool it both increases likelyhood of success and (since everything is based on total number of success) probably greatly amplifies a power (should you succeed).
Unfortunately, it seems to be damn necessary. It's central to Conviction (and the gaining/losing thereof). Without it, Conviction will almost never ever ever increase. I'll convert it, it'll just be spazzo.

Finally, at character creation you're allowed to buy conviction with free traits, up to 8. What the hell? It doesn't seem to me like that really does much. You're not buying permanent traits! If your conviction goes to hell ((FUCK! I botched the edge I risked a trait of Conviction on!)), you come back the next game with your creeds starting, not your enhanced amount. If you cash in for a Virtue, you come in with your creed's starting, not your enhanced amount. It's practically buying temporary traits at Character Creation. I'd put it at 1 freebie per point, since it's not gonna last long at all.
