Hello. My name is Golfer_In_Korea, and I'm a golf-a-holic...
**HI Golfer_In_Korea***<golfers clap>****
Just found this place online. Looks like the forums are new as well. Just wanted to say Hi and see what's going on out there. I am a new golfer stationed in South Korea. I'm not sure if there is such things as the "Golf Bug"...but if there is, I've caught it.
I've been wanting to play golf for years. I always watched people pack up their clubs, go out and play and wish it could be me. Never really knew why. But, there was definitely something alluring about the game. But the only time I had ever held a golf club was at a couple driving ranges. Even then, I only went to hit a few balls to calm me down after having a bad day at work. But as most of you probably know, the driving range isn't always a good place to "calm down", especially for beginners. After slicing about 90% of my range balls and completely missing the other 10%, I left more angry than when I arrived.
Recently, one of my officers asked me to join the company on a Best Ball scramble. I told him I couldn't play a lick, but they said it was okay. Throughout the round, I was getting really upset with myself, but everyone kept telling me I was doing good for my first round. I actually saved our team on a couple putts. Then it came to the last hole, a short Par 3 with a canal running 30 feet before the green. I made it on the green on my first shot, two putts later I had my first legit par..in my first round ever. I was hooked.
Since then I have bought clubs, about half the products on the market related to golf, read every magazine, straightened out my golf swing, become a member of the USGA, anything and everything. It's been a whirlwind romance.
But, about a week ago, I fractured one of my ribs while trying to push my driver longer at the driving range. I didn't know it at first and actually hit a few more balls before calling it quits. I let it heal about a week then convinced myself I was okay, I went back to the range, just to practice my pitching and chipping. I got home and realized I had overdone it. Basically I had reversed any progress that was made on my recovery. So now I am stuck on the couch..out for 6 weeks...gazing out the window on these gorgeous spring days and watching the golf channel (SBS Golf in Korea) to tide me over. Doesn't it seem like the sun is brighter and the air is cleaner when you can't go outside?.
At any rate, that's my story. Nice to meet you folks. Hope to get to know some of you. Take care!

You can use the range in a variety of ways. Pick a target and try to simulate a game situation. Take you time in-between golf balls, again, just like you would on the range.
A huge issue I see is people not finishing the golf swing, recoiling back for the next ball because they just hit a bad one on the range. You never do that on the course, so avoide practicing that way...you will build that in as a bad habit.
The more practice you can do on the short game...the better.
Keep us posted on your progress.
