Empty in Beaver County

April 21 2007, 5:05 PM

I hit several woods today in north Beaver County in western PA. Looked dry and came up empty handed. Blame it on the weather right? :)

Try again tomorrow.

I was out yesterday(4/21/07) in Allegheny County. Warm, soil was moist, and found 10 nicely formed, good size (2.5-3 in.).

Made a nice shrimp and pasta dinner.

I'll be heading out later to check a few more sites.

Also- This is my first time here. Amazing resource. Thanks to all of you who have created and participate in this site.

Timing Southcentral Pa

April 25 2007, 9:33 PM

I have to belive this year the peak will be between May 5 and May 19th. Every year during turkey season I have found my most morels. It usually starts about the second Saturday of the season. Last year I looked while I was hunting and found a few the first week. But the second week it really started warming up, and my dad and I found 140 the second Sat of the season. And that whole week was ridiculous, we ended up with over 800 that second week. 2005 was about the same way, so for me, turkey seasons second weekend is what I personally go by. And the other thing is, the turkey hunting is good the same time Redbuds are out! Chris

Looks like we'll get some after all!!!!

April 27 2007, 9:20 AM

Last night (thursday 4/26) I checked my best spot and sure enough--21 morels.
They are later than they've been in quite awhile but they are there!

I'll take a couple pictures when I go tonight to harvest them.
Good luck in PA!

My spot is Racoon Township.

Spring has been cold, but they are up. Season should last longer than usual due to the weather. They are up all over the National Park region along the river above Shawnee.

Hey I just found this site and am looking foward to my first season seeking these little tasty shrooms. If the fellow is still on this site from Phila. I would be interested in a partner in my seaching (four eyes better than two). I think I might have a few spots that seem like they might produce.
