I used to have them pop up in my backyard in Riesterstown but haven't found any since moving to Harford County. Just got back from the woods and came up empty again...
Hi, we are in Harford County near Aberdeen. Have hunted 2 weekends and not found any yet. We will try next week as the temperature is close to 80 today. We need some warm nights and hot days with a little rain sprinkled in.. Is that too much to ask????
Hi, good luck this weekend. We are going to Rock Creek State Park to look on Saturday. I will report any findings. Weather has been warm all week and we have had a few showers too. Good luck everyone.
I'm a recent transplant to the Odenton area. I've gone out as recently as last Sunday and have found nothing. I grew up looking for morels each spring in the woods on my folks' farm in west-central Indiana, so I'm eager to see if I find any here this spring. I'd love a good mess! I'll go again tomorrow either around Odenton or maybe Hunt Valley/Phoenix area. Will let you know how it goes. Good luck to you all... happy hunting!
You might try in Patapsco State Park, too. I found a few there when I was in college (at UMBC) and its probably closer to your home than Hunt Valley. No luck today in the woods around my house but we plan to try some other spots tomorrow. As a side note, I too am a native Hoosier. I grow up in the Northeast corner of the state (between Angola and Lagrange) and moved out here in the early '80's.
Thanks for the tip about Patapsco; may have to try there soon. I just got back from a few more hours in the woods south of Odenton -- found nothing other than a few toadstools and a looooong Black Racer snake.
I went out this weekend in Frederick, but came home disappointed. Things look promising on the lower parts of the mountains, but not even close as you go up yet.
Hi fellow shrummers. Checked out Rock State Park and didn't find anything. It was very dry. We did find 3 Whoopee Yes I said 3 mushrooms at a park in Aberdeen. We had high hopes of filling our bags but came up almost emptyhanded. I think we will concentrate on fishing! Good lick to all who venture out and let the rest of us know if you fine the motherload---or just a mess! I am ready to go back home to Illinois. I know where to go back there..
We have been finding a few here and there since April 24th, the largest amount was a whopping 17 on our own 6 acres near Boonsboro on the 29th. Last find was on Friday - 5 more. My dad and sister have been to the C&O canal twice with very little luck - I remember going there as a kid and each of us bringing home gallons. I don't think it is going to be a very good year. Still, the taste of a few was wonderful.
Hello, I live in Berkeley Springs not too far from you. You went on the C&O Canal? In Boonsboro or closer to Hancock? I did a search for the Morels hoping to find someplace or a group to start a new hobby. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

debbie i found some last weekend and went back to work in va. came home today, and found some more. you should look around loc raven off of warren rd that is the best i can do. good luck
I'm a transplanted Hoosier also. Originally from the Warsaw area, then went to school and lived in Bloomington for several years.
After a few lean years of starting from scratch looking for good spots, my wife and I have had great luck in Maryland. Not many hunt morels here compared to Indiana. Most people we know here have never heard of them and think we are crazy for eating wild mushrooms! My mother and 2 sisters now come to visit us from Indiana at the end of every April just to hunt in woods that aren't filled with other mushroom hunters.
We just found 28 half frees and 7 black in Great Falls on the 12th. The season is just beginning. It will probably will peak around the 25th of this month.
We also have a secret location that has yielded 200-500 just about every year for the past 6 or 7 years.
I have heard from others who find them in the Catoctan Mountains and out from there into Western Maryland. Going east towards the Bay is not very fruitful, in my opinion.
If you are up for the drive, I also recommend the Shenandoah mountains in VA where You can hunt well into May. As it gets later, just go up in elevation.
