Mushroomgirl, you can legally collect morels in Shenendoah National Park, VA, so check around there in April-May if you don't have luck further to the south. I'd be willing to help you further, but I live all the way up in Northern VA.

Hi folks! Nothing happening in the Charlotte area yet.
Asheville group has a trip to a park north of Knoxville the first week of April, complete with camping.
Check out their link on this site.
Does anyone know if there is a club in the Charlotte area?
Happy hunting!!
I am new to NC and moved from mich and we all know that is morel capital but I know they grow here and would like to hunt but don't know the time to look please help need morels to live (ha ha)
I live in Franklin County, VA. We are only a 2 1/2 hour drive from RDU. There is several places with public access to hunt for morels. Turkey Cock Mountain is a game mgt. area and would recomend sunday hunting as there will be hunters most other days. Went turkey hunting yesterday and ran across 4. Went today and found 72 nice ones in about 20 minutes.
