I went out for a quick walk this afternoon to see what changes happened to my favorite morel spot over the winter. As i did last year I found a couple of early poppers not 3 feet from where I found my first of '07. I figure we have a week or two if the weather is good before we start finding good amounts. Good luck to all you shroomers out there! I am in southern Oregon, and hoping for a great year. TTYL Tommie
Kathy, Yes i've been doing pretty well the past week. On friday evening i picked around 150 in about 1 1/2 hrs on 1 hill side! Alot of them are hiding pretty well, but in this location I look for the obviuos big blond ones then focus closer to their hiding spots. I am planning another trip Sunday, and I'll let you know how i do.
Kathy, Just wanted to let you know I did find more today. I wasn't as lucky as I was last Friday but still did alright. Most of the ones I found today were nice fresh poppers!! Finding mostly large blondes (no greys at all today). I think that there was people pik'n in my spot over the weekend thats why i didn't find as many today. Down here (Grants Pass) They are growing best in heavy dead Madrone areas with filtered sunlite if theres alot of large trees (shading the area) or no trees at all there seems to be no mushrooms. I hope these sugestions help out, and good luck with your next hunt. Please let me know how you do.
Tommie
