Hello to all!
We have been on the hunt for the last couple of weekends and have only found 6 on the west side of moutain off of hwy 33 in Shenandoah Nat Forrest. I am wondering if anyone has found any that way or been up on the Drive and found any?? Does anyone know any better areas to look?
We are fairly new at this and maybe we just aren't looking in the right places or don't have the technique down... if anyone has some tips they can give us, that would be awesome!
ALSO... how much longer in the season do we have?
Thanks to everyone!
I'm not from Shenandoah but have hunted out there several times.
You need to hunt on south-east facing slopes. Especially this time of year when it's still a bit early in the season. You may get luck at the top of a ridge. Just pay attention to how much sun the area gets. They need the warmth from the morning and daytime sun. Look for Tulip Poplars that are blooming and look for Beech trees and May Apples that are just opening. find somewhere else if you see a lot of oak.
I saw talk from some guys who are in your area on another site and they are finding tons of morels right now. They are there, you just need to find the right spots.
