went out for a few hours,April 18-found/stumbled onto a road created i guess by the Corp, they plunged into a timber abut 200 yards long to make a road down to an interstate lake--they just plowed ovdr + thru any trees in the way, dumped them over on the sides of the new roadway-really tore up--it was from last year, walked both sides, picked 120 or so greys & small whites-growing in clusters mostly, right out of the mud of the middle of road-only a few in the grass and timber floor running paralle the newly created roadway-then went off the "road",wandered the timber, going from broke bark to broke bark any and all trees-found a half dozen greys-its just a little early, this cool temps may hold them back--theres no tellin of course-upper 70's for sunday, next week could be the opener, might be a good one too.
---have a lot of time to hunt this year, anyone know a good buyer in Eastern Kansas?
good luck all, dont forget repellent for ticks-Lyme disease is a real problem right now.
I would check with some of the folks who organize the river city market in Kansas City MO. I was there today and asked one of the venders about morels. I am sure they would help you sell them. Check in with your local city markets, most of the people would gladly sell your stuff. YOu can always check with the local restaurants here in lawrence too. I would suggest trying to sell some to Free State Brewery, Tellers, or Mariscos. Good luck with your season!
