Found several greys yesterday in South East Iowa by Montrose. They were small but went back later in the day and several more had came up. Im going to prove once and for all that greys grow and turn yellow. Im going to cover one with a bottle and take pictures of it every day. Well see what happens
I don't think they turn to yellows. I do know that they grow even after they have popped. I watch several a few years ago and they grew several inches in about three weeks time.
They do continue to grow each one is unique. They don not however convert into the yellows. They blossom into the bigger greys if not picked. Yellows come a little later. I have found several small yellows that come in a very narrow and pointed shape when they first pop.
On Friday (4-25-08) I went out at about noon just east of Des Moines and I found a handful of small grey's. Nothing to get too excited about, especially after 5 hours of searching. With this cold-snap this weekend, I'm thinking that we are going to be out of luck until some more heat comes our way and gives them a few days to grow.

Went out today by FtMadison .The yellows are starting to peak in the season right now in this area of s,e, iowa .Found several lbs and a lot of big yellows
Finally they are here..I found 20 or so but ran out of daylight and a possible storm.I found them around the river in the Iowa City area..lol..tomorrow will be a solid day of GOLD..can't wait.
yep the grey and or whites will grow and are really just immature yellows. i have had them take up to 3 weeks to mature. the key is to cover them so they don't dry out. the wind and sun are the biggest enemey. i cover mine with up to a foot of leaves, bark, grass, ect. check out this link. i feel like i wrote a book trying to explain it. there are a couple pics of what i am talking about. i know this goes against most beliefs, but proofs in the process. there are basically 2 maybe 3 kinds of morels. blacks and those that aren't black with maybe spikes thrown in for the third type.
if i could figure out how to post pics here i would, but for now check out the link.
Yes! This was the thread i saw the pics in. And thanks Ack, that was a great reading! I tried to find the thread link, but its acting like the database got cleared or something.

i get quite a few different responses when i try to explain my findings with fellow shroomers. seems as though there are quite afew people who refuse to open their eyes! maybe i will get time today to check on my little greys i have covered and see how they are doing. if they have matured (turned yellow) i will take and post the pics.
