Christmas Tree Farm near Portland OR

Three years ago, we bought a home in the foothills, including several acres of mature Noble Fir Christmas trees. We cut a few dozen trees a year. Last spring we found several pounds of huge grays all around the trees. Anyone else heard of morels growing in a Noble tree farm?

The snow just melted 2 weeks ago, and we've been checking diligently...and...today we FOUND 15 or so very small ones!!! Will check on them again everyday until they are full sized.

Also, does anyone have advice on picking techniques? Last year we had no idea what we were doing, and pulled them up from the roots. Now I'm reading that may kill the mycillium underground.

Thanks for any advice from those more experienced than us (we seem to be doing well at findikng them, it's what to do after that, we need help with!! :)

Thank you, and happy hunting!

Kim & Steve

I have picked morels in and around christmas trees, old apple tree farms as well as cherry trees, as far as picking them, if you pull them by the roots it will hurt that spot for that year and that year only, I usually just pinch them off and have the best luck, good luck and good picking.
