I am so excited. I am brand new to this. I saw a show on tv about morel hunting and never thought I'd ever see a morel or get to taste one in my lifetime. I never went hunting for them, but I just about fell over when I saw some in my yard. I have 3 seperate areas on my small 1 acre lot surrounded by woods. They weren't under trees or anything like the show said they would be. They were just hanging out all around 1.the burn barrel, 2.close to a wooded area where we dump the ash from the wood burner, and 3.under a shady forsithia & pinetree area. Is that normal??? I picked 22 in all, but left some smaller ones- figuring they will taste better when they grow-up. A few were bigger than a soup can. I read some recipes & decided to soak for 1 hour, cook them in a skillet with a little butter , salt & pepper- so we could taste the morel & not flour & all the other suggestions. Oh my GOD, they were amazing. I think I'm in love & have found a new hobby. Before tonight I wasn't even much of a mushroom lover. I plan to check out the surrounding woods around my house. This is so excitiing. I live northern Beaver County , Pa. Is this a usual site for morels? Thanks for all the great info. on all of these morel sites. I'm hooked!

Elizibeth,

No, it is not unusual for morels in your neck of the woods. PA has been an interesting state this year as the reports coming in from most areas are really good. Central region of the state has been exceptionally good. If you visit the sightings map on The Great Morel's page you'll see that you are one of many.

Glad you are hooked and glad you like the website.

Best to you,
