Hi, I am fairly new to this area and have been trying to find out if there are any good places to look near duluth. I have picked them for over 25 years in michigan but not sure where to look out here. It seems like most of them grow down by the cities? Any ideas would be greatly valued.
hi...i dont know if they grow that far north. thats what i was wondering about. i bet they grow there. there are elm trees in duluth and thats what they grow under...let me know if you find any info on this. thanks
I was planting trees in a sandy woods somewhere east of Duluth in 1983 and found over 300 yellow morels in one day. It was a pine woods, recently logged and no elms. I'm from the great morel state of Indiana, but I have never had this kind of haul before or since.
WOW! Thanks for the info. I used to live up there and my sister lives north of duluth and we both want to go shroom hunting...neither of us have ever done this before. Youre from Indiana? i have a friend in jeffersonville...anything in that area? Thanks.
I was finding morels in northern MN at this time last year. This year, I don't think they'll even start until later next week...if then. I used to pick asparagus in the spring and just started with morels last year. I found over 550 within a few days. I was picking in an area north of Virginia, MN, about an hour and a half north of Duluth. So, I'm sure you can find then in Duluth. They seem to like hills. I think the morels I found are "black morels". I'm heading south in the morning, any suggestions of where to stop?
