SW Iowa first and then South Dakota

I hunted this past weekend in Vermillion South Dakota and found 7 3/4 pounds. Mostly grays with a few yellows just starting it seemed. I walked in the rain one day and they had grown tremendously by the next day just a few hours later! It was amazing and a great learning experience. I also found they do grow at 50 something temps! I think the warmer weather helps, but the cold doesn't totally hinder them!

Sheryl,

7 plus pounds of greys and some yellows is a great harvest. I totally agree that cool temps with moisture can still produce good amounts of morels. I live in Minnesota and cool temps is just a part of our climate and I have still consistently found them year in and out. I do think the perfect combo of the warm ground temps with the moisture will bring out more shrooms though. Thanks for the update.

I found a cluster of 4 about 3" high on the NE side of the
Missouri River by where they are building the new Discovery
Bridge at Yankton, SD, on 5-10-08. They seem to be moving west and North.

I found 10 yellow morels on the SD side of the Gavins Point Dam on 5-14-08.
I took pictures on my c-phone but can't figure how to get them in here.

Found 10+ pounds of biggens 1 mile south of Fort Randall Damn. There were literally tons of them. Just took enough to last a few months.
