Can I cut the tree down?

I have a big elm in my back yard that died a year ago. This spring it had allot of morels around it. The tree is pretty big and will definitly hit the house if it goes down. I'm wondering if cutting it down will effect the amount of morels I get or if I will get any at all. Thanks for any info in advance.

I think they really go after the dead root system & not the tree. So I say yes it would be fine to cut it down.
