This weekend will probably be to wet, but I was thinking that next weekend would be a great one to start hunting. I am in Cramerton, right next to Gastonia and from what I see on the sighting page early april seems to be the best time for our Area. I grew up going hunting for them every year with my Grandpa and thought it would be a good thing to take the kids out looking for them.
Hi folks,
We are in Dallas. Have been keeping my eyes on a spot between here and Bessemer City. The may apples are coming up,but haven't seen morels yet.May have to go up to mtns to find them.Have you checked out at Crowder's Mtn park? Heard that is a good possible place.Don't get around too good any more, but I am going to try and get out anywho.I used to go hunting with my Dad in Indiana when I was little and when I lived in Illinois for a short time when my kids were little.
Really look forward to this time of year!Good luck and keep in touch.
Went out for a bit today, but didn't find any. Spotted mayapples, trilliums and jack-in-the-pulpit, but no morel. Probably too wet, as Eric noted.
Still hopeful, making a trip to VA Saturday, hopefully I can talk some old buddies out of a batch!! Possibly too early there now though, they are usually a couple of weeks behind us.
It's like a rash that won't go away - it's all consuming and every poplar tree you spot from the road, you're convinced there MUST be a mushroom under it.
Any recent burn areas or very old orchards near by?
