Just wanted to let everyone know that a friend of mine found one small black sponge yesterday on 4-4-09 in east central indiana about 8 miles outside of Richmond, Indiana. I wouldnt believe it if I havent seen it.
poterick is full of it,show us the pictures?? theres not even enough green in the woods let alone the temps..heck i dont even think the ground temp has even hit 50degrees yet,but i will check..i think we have another week before the southern 1/3 of ohio starts finding them, then they will slowly start there migration north 15 miles per day is how fast spring moves it starts in feburary in florida and moves north 15 miles aday, bet you didnt know that one..
Just what we need here. You try to keep people informed, and someone says they don't believe ya. All I can say is just sit on the sofa until "You" think they are "Here" ! Meanwhile I'll be full of ........Morels ;-)
Potterick is not fibbing. I went out on Sunday, april 5, and found 40, yes 40 blacks!!! I then went out again on monday, april 6, and found 16 more. plus a half dozen really small ones, that I covered back up. So, no mud slinging, Guest. I live in salem ohio, about 30 minutes from potterick. i hope that this cold and snow didn't hurt the season.
Check out the picks of all the morels I've found since Sunday, April 5! www.shadowboxer.myphotoalbum.com I'll be in the woods tomorrow morning for sure!! If i didn't have to work this afternoon, I'd be in the woods!
What county are you in? I am trying to map out this year- the spotting's. I am in Montgomery county. Nothing. I am trying to find a new hot spot. I have no access to where I went last year...
found 131 in the last two days blacks greys and early morels (dog peckers) they sure tasted good we found them about thirty miles east of cincinnati.
happy hunting
Found another dozen or so Blacks in our only black spot ! Good news is that we found 3 small greys or yellows, it was hard to tell. The big boys are just around the bend !
Thanks for the heads up. I found 18 small greys in southern Iowa last night. I always wait for ohio to find a few, thats when I know to start. Thanks guys for the early heads up...
Hard to believe but we returned to our "Black" spot today to find about a dozen more. The total for this one spot is nearing the 200 mark. Held several of us over till the the yellows start here. We will be checking Saturday for greys/yellows.
Found only a few gray/white morels on Saturday the 25th, and a few more yesterday(27th). We also found our first yellows and they were very dry. 2 of them were completly dehydrated, ready for storage. We need some rain here and were gonna get it this week, maybe even today.

We found 86 in Adams county 2 weekends ago. (Spikes, Blacks, Greys and yellows).
We found a couple thousand last weekend and didn't even get through the woods. Again spikes, Blacks, Greys and Yellows nice ones also 2 to 8 inches. This woods has never been hunted. We picked till we couldn't see because it was dark. They are all up together.
I found 200 blacks in mid March in Clermont county. If I new how to add pictures I would, but I don't know if you can do it on this web site.
Needless to say...We have had a wonderful year so far.
I am a complete rookie. I haven't found any in over 20 years. I'm in NW Ohio, Wood/Hancock county area. Any suggestions on woodland type or soil type? I LOVE morels and want to faint when I read that folks are finding hundreds to thousands of these things! I'd be SO happy with just a dz.
I am up in Cleveland area but willing to travel, im a noob to ohio so suggestions please on where to get started. I have been up in Vermont hunting with my cousin
jefferson county-ohio,I found 27 mostly blacks april 24 in two different areas. The place i hunt is loaded with elms from young to dead on the ground. My experience is that there are always morels out from march until june.Depending on moisture and temperature will dictate how many. They will not always come up in usual places year after year.Thinking like a mountain goat and covering ground like a beagle always does me good.Do not forget the ramps--fellas! Going out tomorrow and will definitely BANG-EM. Good Luck fellas and walk safe........
