Heading for Dubuque with my 3 boys and my wonderful husband, this weekend to visit my elderly dad. We hunt 350 acres near there and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with any large or small amounts of morels. I've been hunting since I was a toddler on my godparents land there in Dubuque and look forward to going every year with my family. Did not have a great season last year and hoping the weather will give us a bountiful crop as it did in the past.
I have searched daily for the last week while walking the dog here in Dubuque without a sighting.
Ground temperature, from what I've read needs to be at least 55 deg. for them to start. We reached that yesterday. Moisture seems adequate.
Just need a steamy day or two and they should take off. I'll you informed.
I found the first 5 little guys of the year last wednesday. The were all less than an inch. I found about 180 this weekend. They ranged in size from 1-3 inches, all grays. I went out for a couple hours on both Saturday and Sunday. I went out for a hike in different spot today and rofund a dozen more small greys. they are out there. It should only get better in time.
