RE: NY NY NY

May 3 2009, 6:19 PM

Yes it appears they have come up in New York. At least to some degree.
I found a group of 29 this afternoon in St. Lawrence County. I checked out probably about 12 likely looking places, but found no more. Hopefully the weather will do all the right things and they'll be popping all over. The next week or so should traditionally be the right time up here!!!
Good luck hunting!!

Connecticut, found a few

May 4 2009, 11:25 AM

I'm in Northwest corner of CT, We found a few small ones. Hardly enough to make it worth while. My brother told me they grow by elm trees. Does anyone have any more info. on what type of place to really find more!! He finds quite a few, but I think he doesn't want to share because I might get to them first. But, I'm sure there is probably enough for all of us if we know how to find them in new spots. Thanks in advance :)

Westchester Morels

May 6 2009, 10:43 PM

I found 8 beautiful black morels on Sunday in lower Westchester County. I went back out today, and found 12 soggy and sagging morels. I guess the 3 days of rain had an adverse effect on the shrooms. Happy hunting!

a few more....

May 7 2009, 5:42 PM

I found 4 more morels last night in St. Lawrence County , N.Y. next to a small dead elm in the woods.
I left them to see if they would get any larger. Checked again tonight and after an all day soaking rain the original 4 had turned into 8. The size may be slightly larger but not really noticeable yet.
I'll be looking as much as I can over the weekend.
Would like to see warmer temperatures.
Anyway ...seeing these doubled in quanity in one day (from 4 to 8 ) I figured by the end of 30 days , doubling every day as they have so far, I should have a real nice batch ..actually 4,294,967,296 of them.
Should be enough to share with everybody.
I'm pretty sure this theory will hold up ...right ????
Happy shrooming!!!

need some guidance

May 10 2009, 7:34 PM

I found 3 large yellows on my property a two years back, and haven't found any more anywhere since. (Work on the house damaged the area they were growing sadly.) Is there anyone willing to guide me on a hunt so I can learn from somebody who really knows? I've been reading books and online since my first find, and have just been frustrated every time I've searched and found nothing. I have looked under the few apple trees i've found with no luck, I've searched many areas I've scouted and thought would be perfect but found nothing. And on top of that, I haven't been able to locate a single dead Elm tree anywhere near me. And the ash trees I've found and spend hours combing the ground around haven't yielded either. Clearly I'm doing something critically wrong. If somebody is willing to give me some advice or guidance I would appreciate it...

they're here.....

May 18 2009, 7:13 AM

We've been hunting in the 1000 island area of northern NY. Finally found some this last week. Found 27 on Wednesday 5/13 under a faithful old apple tree. Found a new location on Sunday 5/17 that yielded about 50-55 yellows, all super fresh and all about 3-4" high. Yippee!! Finally !

Royal Flush

May 31 2009, 9:47 AM

May 31, 2009
Went out yesterday to see if I could bear witness to the legendary second flush and got paid back in spades. 426 yellows, almost doubling my single day record. Several bigfoots but mostly small water soaked specimens... still counts. Mostly under Ash, North exposure, higher and dryer ground. Been raining here a lot. Fine breakfast this AM. Enjoy the hunt, Geo.
