Hey There
Does Anyone here hunt in Maine? I have only hunted Morels one time and it was in Kansas with a group who had been doing it for generations. I am just looking for pointers or any help that could be offered to a beginner, I am trying to get my 9 year old interested so I dont want to take him on too many goose chases. Our first effort was today and we saw nothing.... Thanks In Advance For Any Help Offered.
Hey phil
I lived in blue hill area for five years and never really went hunting but I did stumble on some a few times. I found them in an old apple orchard(grassy) near some spruce/pine trees. kinda random but thats what I know, I think it was mid may when I found them
good luck

Hey guys, I am originally from Maine, never thought they were up there B-U-T you guys gotta go Chantrell hunting up there if dont already. My brother got a hundred pounds last year, Im on my last couple of frozen bags. They are considered to be tied at the top with morels. Good Luck guys.
Still a little early for Maine - likely at least a week away.
Watch the apple trees. When they start to blossom, it's time to start hunting.
Old orchards are often good areas - but be sure they have not been sprayed for at least a decade. Most (even those called organic) use fungicides which knock out most mushroom species.
If you can find an orchard that's been abandoned and gone wild, that can be a pretty good hunting spot.
I haven't seen any morels but have found some Dryad's Saddle. I will continue my search for Morels in Maine latter this week as the weather improves. If I find any I will post here.
I found a dozen morels in central Maine today under an old dead apple tree. I looked under about 3 dozen more old apple trees and didn't find any more.
Way to go, awesome, I graduated in Orono where about is your "central" Maine, Im just curious I dont plan on flying up and raiding your spot, lol. Im in Indiana
