South Dakota

We live in SE south dakota, and tried yesterday for the first time this year. I was always told its about the time the lilacs start blooming. We found 11 little ones, but I was wondering if we were too late this year, or if we strangly enough even with the river flooded if we need more rain? Things seemed kind of dry where we were, even along the river... any info would help.

Thanks!

Found small grays

May 7 2009, 10:45 AM

Been finding small grays and marked some to note growth. A couple yellows. Rained last night so hoping that will bring more. I think it may be a tad early because of the cool weather last week. Last Mother's Day we found 3 pounds!!

Black Morels

May 17 2009, 10:24 AM

We've been finding blacks this past week near Sturgis in the Black Hills and near Alva in the Bear Lodge. Aspen pods mixed with oaks at relatively low elevations and on south facing slopes.
Try the Belle Fourche River and its feeder streams for cottonwood hosted greys and yellows.

Good rain then light snow last night here in Lead at 6,000 feet. Blacks are popping at 4,000 elevation in aspen and apples blooms are just starting at 5,000 elevation. If the rains come every few days we could have a good 2-3 season here in the high country.

Blacks still up

June 9 2009, 4:11 PM

We are still finding blacks at 6,000-7,000 feet north of Deerfield and west of Rochford. It snowed this weekend and it is pouring again now so we may still go another week or better.
