Morels gone bad?

Please help me. My Father in law just sent me a plastic bag full of morels. It was shipped Monday afternoon and arrived Thursday afternoon. There was quite a bit of liquid in the bag. I have never had one before, so I am not sure what they are supposed to look like/taste like/smell like etc.
Thanks!

That happens. It's better to ship them in paper so they won't sweat so much. As long as they don't have mold, they're o.k. Morel mold looks like white webbing. You better soak them an hour or so and eat them right away, or split them lengthwise and dry them for rehydration later. Fresh morels don't have a very long shelf life. Even in the fridge, if you put them in plastic, they will sweat. As I said, as long as there is no mold, you're good.

Fridge Storage

There's a big misconception out there to try and keep the critters forever by keeping them wet in plastic bags. This may prolong it short term, but the best thing you can do is put the critters in a brown paper bag and leave the top kinda open loosley. I've done this many years and it stands it's ground. I have kept them pretty fresh and solid for a good couple of weeks. You have to realize they will collect odors of other mind boggling things you forgot in the fridge though. Overall I belive this to be the best way to go. I have several lunch bags in the fridge right now and my oldest bag has gone two weeks and they are still firm. Their just like me, fresh, firm and no signs of shrinking!!!!!!
