My wife and I have been wolfing down our fair share of natures' goodies, and in conversation, a friend of hers (ER nurse) stated 'morels aren't good for pregnant women!' My wife is 18 weeks along, and after posting this I'm going to go look on the net for answers, but I figured this forum was a good spot to get stories from real people. Has anyone heard of that or had problems related to eating mushrooms whilst pregnant?!
i ate morels during my pregnancy and my baby was fine, infact she is now 23 yrs old. grew up on morels and still have them every spring !, my daughter actually loves them too. always cook them ( contain small toxin amounts) but also contain zinc which is very good for the fetus. Dont worry your fine.
They contain small amounts of toxins that can build up in the body just like mercury, especially when not cooked enough. My son ate them for a few years when he was small, then one year, he'd get sick each time he ate them. I wouldn't take the chance of eating them if she's preagnant.
...and I think this may be another one of those pregnancy do's and don'ts debates. I really wanted to go morel hunting this season, but due to the risk of large amounts of deet needed to fend off the mosquitoes, it doesn't look good this year. Deet may be another do or don't debate... I say, use your own discretion! -shawna
