hunters on my property without permission

Hi, this is my first post.

I recently bought 5 acres of great mushroom hunting woods. To my delight, I found several by my shed, then it happened. A long line of strangers kept coming into my woods and cleaned me out before I had time to hunt myself.

I'm sure the previous owner didn't do anything about it (he was never home)

What's the best way to keep strangers out? I enjoy hunting, and know that several of my friends and family want to look too.

I'm not opposed to letting people go find them if I don't want to or already got what I wanted, but holy crap. There was a different person at my house every day for weeks. If you want to hunt my woods, at least call and ask permission first. And not a single person asked if they could stay or offered some of their found mushrooms for the privelege of using the land.

What do you recommend? Do no trespassing signs work for most people? What about a phone number to call on the signs?

signs wont work. 'shroomers will risk a lot for them. if you can follow them, write their plate number down, and turn it in. you could also get a few of those motion detecting cameras that deer hunters use and place them in trees. the flash might scare them off. you could get dogs, too. gotta get creative.

now that i think of it you should put signs bordering your property so the boundaries are obvious. again, it may not stop them but that way youll have proof if they overstep the boundaries.

Take their pictures with a big flash, get their plate number if you can. Tell them if they don't turn over the mushrooms, you will turn them in to the law and the news and Judge Judy for theft.

hmm...

...I would put up signs along the property boundry as a previous poster mentioned, just so people will know that it is private property. No trespassing, Rotweiler (or intimidating dog of choice) on premises, violators will be proscuted, etc. "For hunting permission, please contact: #" I guess I would start there, and then follow up with license plates, etc.

you are funny dude, learn to live with it or keep a vigil eye on things. I'd do almost anything for shrooms so keep that in mind. By the way I live in Indiana so you wont catch me. Good luck.

You pay the taxes you own the land so you are intitled to the fruits of you property.Stealing anything is wrong.Post the land and get the evidence and file charges.I have collected over $2K in judgements on trespassors and trash dumpers in the last yr alone.I love scoflaws who think they are above the property laws.I had one guy chased out of the state because he punched me in the face.I got a judgement of $50k against him.He had to sell his home to pay me and he lost his job.

Well, don't get too bold. I don't have a house or a job, so if I punch you in the face, the only thing you'll be collecting is your teeth.
