I am a hour south of you. We have been way dry here, so shrooms are toast till it rains. One of the slimmest morel seasons I have ever experienced. I hope we have some rain in June for the higher altitude blacks.

I went out hunting for whites on Saturday (Livingston area) with luke-warm results, but it was pretty cold out. I did find a few big patches of oysters. I may go again this afternoon if it warms up a bit. I'm hoping for a warmer day following all this rain and cold.

Same here, i live in northwest MT, absolutely the worst season i have experienced. We had a ton of snow during the winter, but we didn't have our typical wet spring. Everything is dry. But today we are getting some rain finally, and it's cold. So hopefully that will pop some up. Someone let me know if they start havin some luck!

slim pickins

It's been my first year looking and I have only found about a dozen. The ones I have found are whites, according to a friend, and one was as large as my fist. How late does the season go?

going out to check my low-altitude spot today or tomorrow, then I am going to check a burn on the face. I will keep you posted. We had snow on the mountains from top to bottom this morning, so that will stunt them from taking off higher up. Maybe with a little sun... I think May and June got reversed this year.

west yellowstone...

checked the burn from 2 years ago; no luck aside from 3 that looked like they somehow overwintered; lots of other mushrooms coming up; found lots of big false morels at around 8000 feet...a few yellows on the rivers, but it all seems late this year...we picked high elevation into july last year; remember, june is the wettest month of the year in southwest MT, not May.

Red Lodge

Anyone trying out the Red Lodge burn area from last year? I'm not too far from there, but don't know if we will be going that way at all in the next few weeks. Just was wondering and if anyone had any luck.

any Chantrells?

July 6 2009, 11:07 PM

I see where folks back east are now starting the Chantrell season. Are they found in Wyoming or Montana? I've never found one, but have yet to put in much time.
