Is there some way to avoid loosing pictures in posts?

It seem like a lot of the value in posts is the pictures. Many of the not so old posts have links to pictures that no longer work.

Must be some workaround to avoid this...

when the original poster removes them from his Photobucket album, or wherever he stores them, or comes back and removes them or his post, they disappear. I agree the pics are great for research etc. unfortunately something that can't be controlled.
