There were several variants of the 3DO with the same basic CPU set-up. They even made an expansion slot for computers that allowed you to play 3DO games on your PC! This was back in the day when PCs could not do 3D or complex games very well.

This was primarily the brain child of Trip Hawkins who co-founded EA Sports. 3DO still lives on today as a software developer. I have Gex for my PS1 which was one of the "big" titles for the 3DO.
