Which country or countries usually come out on top in the annual United Nations Survey for "quality of life"?
Generally, it's one of the Scandinavian countries, Sweden, Norway, they always come in at the top.
Norway wisely invested the North Sea Oil money, through their nationalized oil company, I think it's called StaatsOIL, or close. If you check it out, I believe that Norway is the third richest country in the world.
These countries are called "socialist", taking care of their people from cradle to the grave. They take care of their people. Sweden has a popn of 8-10 million or whatever, they had a pretty good car industry, Volvo, Saab, and a darn good aerospace industry too. Health care as well. And have you ever watched a Swedish movie? They're bloody works of art, "Scenes from a Marriage" by Bergman had me riveted for three hours, just two people talking.
I just read that a contestant on Survivor died from breast cancer, she had no health insurance and never went to seek medical help, in essence self diagnosing herself, by the time she saw a doctor, it was too late.
Surely, the American people deserve better. It is a great country as is evidenced by their being one of the first onscene to help another country, when they need help, as in Haiti's case.
This is in a long line of humanitarian causes they have assisted the world community.
I read that the strict definition of "socialism", (in the book that Reagonomics and Thatcherite policies were based on,Friedrich Hayek's "The Road to Serfdom") is complete planning and control of the economy by the state.
The theory in Reagonomics was that prosperity would "trickle down". C'mon, check it out, in the U.S. the top 10% have more money than the bottom 90%combined, and I have heard that the top 1% have more money than the rest of the population combined!
Yet, the taxpayers will pay for the TARP programs.Arrogant CEO'S flying to Washington in corporate jets to get more of your money cause they were incompetent at their job,self serving, greedy and arrogant. Right wing radio programs with agenda pushing big mouths, if you shout it loud enough as many times as you can it's gotta be true, like Beck getting $50 million for 5 years!
You can call it right, left, progressive, democrat, republican, the bottom line is that you deserve health care if and when you need it,a standard of living allowing you to live in decency. Dump the lobby groups, partisans etc. and let's take care of the average, honest American.
