Hello,
I had a small fire in the rear on the machine. The rectifier/regulator must have got moisture in it and was the reason for the fire. I replaced the rectifier and a whole wire harness. After discovering the fuse that failed, I can get the starter to turn over and things seem good; however, no spark. I have gone back up the spark plug wire to the( I am assuming a coil or capacitor). Taking a reading from both wires comming into the coil/capacitor I get 12 volts on the meter. Does this mean that the Coil/Capicitor is bad?? I think it is a coil but, I am not sure.

Hi Ron,

To the best of my knowledge, the voltage reading for the wires coming into the coil/capacitor should be 12 volts. If the voltage coming out of the coil is still 12 volts, then the coil is bad.

The purpose of the coil is to take a low voltage from the "in" connection and dramatically increase the voltage coming "out" to adequately fire the spark plug.

Hope this helps...
