1980 honda atc no spark

i have a 1980 honda atc 110. i cannot get a constant spark. i pull 100 times and only get a spark 1-2 times. i have cleaned the points. do you know what the gap specs on the points is suppose to be? i have power coming out of the generator. any ideas?

Hi David,

I don't know what the gap is supposed to be... Sorry.

But have you checked or replaced the spark plug wire recently? The strands inside do break down over time, so the problem might be as simple as that.

Even if the points gap is off, you should still see a consistent spark, the motor just wouldn't fire, or it would idle very rough.

A call to the dealer could answer the points gap question, or if you are planning on keeping your 110 a while longer, I always suggest getting a manual...
